Blessed to Become a Blessing: When the Blessing Has a Destination

Psalm 67

Anchor Scripture:
“May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face to shine upon us.” — Psalm 67:1

Who doesn't want that prayer answered?

“God, bless me.”

“God, be gracious to me.”

“God, let Your face shine upon me.”

We could stop right there and happily say amen.

But the Psalmist doesn't stop there.

The next verse tells us why he desires God's blessing:

“That your way may be known on earth, your saving power among all nations.”

Suddenly the blessing has a destination.

The Psalmist desires God's favor, but not merely so his own life becomes more comfortable. He wants the evidence of God's goodness among His people to make God's ways known beyond them.

That's a very different way of thinking about blessing.

Psalm 67 repeatedly turns our attention outward:

Let the peoples praise You.

Let the nations be glad.

Let all the ends of the earth fear God.

Even when the earth yields its increase, the Psalmist sees God's provision as another reason for people everywhere to recognize Him.

So perhaps today's question isn't simply:

“God, what are You going to give me?”

Maybe it is:

“God, what do You want to reveal through what You've given me?”

Your testimony can point somewhere.

Your resources can serve someone.

Your wisdom can strengthen someone.

Your encouragement can lift someone.

Even the places where God has restored you can become evidence to someone else that restoration is possible.

The blessing was never supposed to stop moving because it reached you.

Today's Micro Surrender

I surrender the desire to make every blessing primarily about me.

Look at something God has placed in your life today—not merely money or possessions, but time, experience, wisdom, influence, access, compassion, testimony, or ability.

Then ask:

“Lord, how can this make Your goodness known?”

You don't have to manufacture an enormous moment.

Sometimes blessing someone else begins with noticing them.

The God who causes His face to shine upon us invites us to live so that others can see where the light came from.

Prayer

Father, thank You for every way You have blessed my life. Keep Your gifts from stopping with me. Show me how what You have entrusted to me can reveal Your goodness to someone else today. In Jesus' name, amen.

What has God placed in my life that I have been treating as a possession when He may intend it to become a blessing to someone else?
