Psalm 81 is both an invitation and a warning. God reminds His people that He delivered them. He provided for them. He made a way where there was none.

If You Would Only Listen
by Torrie Slaughter
Some of the most powerful words God speaks are also the simplest.
“If my people would only listen to me…” (Psalm 81:13)
Not strive harder.
Not perform better.
Not figure everything out.
Just… listen.
Psalm 81 is both an invitation and a warning.
God reminds His people that He delivered them.
He provided for them.
He made a way where there was none.
But in verse 11, it says:
“My people would not listen to me.”
And that changed everything.
Because peace is not just about what God does—
it’s about whether we respond.
Jehovah Shalom offers peace freely…
But peace is experienced through alignment.
And alignment begins with listening.
Listening when it’s inconvenient.
Listening when it challenges what we want.
Listening when it requires us to trust beyond what we can see.
God even says in verse 16:
“I would feed you with the finest of wheat…”
In other words—I have more for you.
More provision.
More peace.
More clarity.
But it’s on the other side of obedience.
Prayer
Lord, help me to quiet the noise and truly listen to Your voice. Remove distractions that keep me from hearing You clearly. Give me the courage to obey what You are speaking, even when it’s difficult. Lead me into the fullness of Your peace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Reflection
What might God be asking of you right now—and have you been listening?
✅ Action Step
Set aside 5 intentional minutes today with no distractions. Ask God, “What are You saying to me?”—and write down what comes to your heart.
