Sunday, April 19, 2026 – Psalm 88

When Peace Feels Far Away

by Torrie Slaughter

Now let’s be real.

Psalm 88 doesn’t end on a high note.
There’s no neat resolution. No visible breakthrough.

“Darkness is my closest friend.” (Psalm 88:18)

This is one of the most honest Psalms in Scripture.

And this is important for your audience to understand:

👉 Even in Scripture, there are moments where peace is not felt—but God is still present.

The psalmist is:

  • overwhelmed

  • exhausted

  • crying out without relief

But here’s what stands out:

He keeps talking to God.

That is peace in action—not emotion, but connection.

Jehovah Shalom is not absent just because you feel overwhelmed.

Sometimes peace looks like:

  • continuing to pray when you’re tired

  • choosing God when you don’t feel Him

  • staying anchored when everything feels heavy

Peace is not always a calm feeling…
👉 sometimes it’s the decision to stay with God in the dark

🙏🏽 Prayer

Lord, even when I don’t feel peace, help me stay connected to You. Remind me that Your presence is not based on my emotions. Hold me steady when I feel weak.

✅ Action Step

If today feels heavy, don’t try to fix it—just talk to God honestly. That is your peace today.
