Truth Will Hold You Steady

by Torrie Slaughter

There is a kind of peace that comes from clarity—knowing where you stand, even when others question it.

Psalm 89:14 reminds us that “Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; steadfast love and faithfulness go before You.” This is not just poetry—it is positioning. God does not rule from emotion, confusion, or reaction. He rules from truth.

And that matters when your life feels misinterpreted.

Because when people misunderstand you, the temptation is to explain everything, prove your heart, and defend your actions. But this Psalm shifts the focus. It reminds us that God’s promises are not fragile. What He establishes is not undone by human opinion.

The psalmist reflects on God’s covenant with David—a promise that would not be broken, even when circumstances didn’t align with expectations. That’s the tension we often live in: God has spoken, but what we see doesn’t yet match what He said.

And in that space, peace can feel… distant.

But here’s the truth: peace is not built on what others understand about you.
It is built on what God has already declared.

When you know that God’s foundation is righteousness and justice, you don’t have to scramble to correct every misunderstanding. You can stand still in what is true.

Jesus Himself faced constant questioning in Luke 20. Every word He spoke was examined, challenged, and twisted. Yet He never lost His footing. Why? Because He was anchored in truth—not in approval.

So today, let this settle in your spirit:
You don’t have to chase clarity from people when you already have it from God.

Let truth hold you steady.

🙏🏽 Prayer

Lord, thank You that Your truth is unshakable. When I feel the pressure to explain or defend myself, remind me that You are my foundation. Help me to stand firm in what You have spoken and trust that Your promises will hold, even when others don’t understand. Let Your truth quiet every anxious thought. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Action Step
