Guard the Little Things

by Torrie Slaughter

Peace is not usually lost in one big moment—it slips through small, unnoticed choices.

Psalm 92 begins with something simple: “It is good to give thanks to the Lord…” Gratitude, reflection, worship—these are not grand gestures. They are daily practices.

And yet, they are powerful.

Because while Psalm 93 reminds us that “The Lord reigns”—firm, established, unshaken—our lives can still feel unstable when we neglect the small things that keep us connected to Him.

This is where the drift begins.

Judges shows us a cycle of forgetting, compromise, and consequence. Luke 22 shows Peter, confident in his loyalty, yet unaware of how close he is to denial. Neither moment happens suddenly.

It happens gradually.

Peace erodes when we stop tending to what sustains it.

When we neglect prayer.
When we rush through time with God.
When we assume we’re stronger than we are.

But the beauty of Psalm 92 is that it calls us back—not with pressure, but with invitation.

It is good to give thanks.
It is good to remember.
It is good to stay rooted.

Because small, consistent moments with God build a life that stands firm.

🙏🏽 Prayer

Lord, help me to stay attentive to the small things that keep me close to You. Teach me not to overlook the daily practices that strengthen my faith. Guard my heart from drifting and keep me rooted in Your presence. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Action Step

Start or end your day with one intentional act of gratitude—speak it, write it, or pray it.
