When You Feel Overwhelmed… God Is Still Unshaken
by Torrie Slaughter
Psalm 102 shifts the tone completely.
Gone is the celebration—now we hear the cry of someone overwhelmed, weary, and worn down:
“Hear my prayer, O Lord… do not hide Your face from me.”
This is raw. Honest. Unfiltered.
The psalmist describes fading strength, loneliness, and distress.
This isn’t polished faith—it’s real faith.
Because real faith doesn’t pretend everything is okay.
It brings everything to God.
And yet, right in the middle of the struggle, something shifts:
“But You, O Lord, are enthroned forever.” (Psalm 102:12)
That one word—“But”—changes everything.
It reminds us that while our circumstances fluctuate,
God remains constant.
Our emotions may rise and fall…
but God is steady.
Our situations may feel uncertain…
but God is unshaken.
The psalmist doesn’t deny the pain—
he re-centers on truth.
And that’s the invitation for us.
Not to ignore what we feel…
but to anchor ourselves in who God is.
Because if you only focus on your situation, you’ll feel overwhelmed.
But when you remember God’s position—you find stability.
You are the same, and Your years have no end.” (Psalm 102:27)
God doesn’t change.
He doesn’t weaken.
He doesn’t forget.
So even when you feel like you’re unraveling…
He is still holding everything together.
And that means—you’re not as lost as you feel.
Prayer
Lord, when I feel overwhelmed, remind me that You are unchanging and unshaken. Help me to bring my honest emotions to You while anchoring myself in Your truth. Strengthen me to trust You, even in uncertain moments. Amen.
