Don’t Forget What God Has Done
by Torrie Slaughter
Have you ever noticed how quickly we move on from what God just did?
We pray, we wait, we cry out… and when the answer comes, we celebrate—for a moment. Then life keeps moving, challenges return, and suddenly we’re back in a place of worry like God hasn’t already proven Himself faithful.
Psalm 103 opens with a command, not a suggestion:
“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.”
This is personal. David isn’t speaking to a crowd—he’s speaking to himself.
Because sometimes the greatest battle isn’t what’s happening around you…
it’s what you’re remembering within you.
David begins to list the benefits:
He forgives all your iniquity
He heals all your diseases
He redeems your life from the pit
He crowns you with steadfast love and mercy
This isn’t poetic exaggeration—it’s intentional remembrance.
Because when you forget what God has done, you start to question what He’s doing now.
But when you remember:
Your faith strengthens
Your perspective shifts
Your gratitude grows
And suddenly, what once felt overwhelming begins to feel temporary.
David also reminds us of God’s nature:
“The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.”
God isn’t responding to you based on perfection—He’s responding based on His character.
And that means even when you’ve fallen short…
His mercy is still available.
So today, pause before you rush into the next thing.
What has God already done for you?
Where has He already shown up?
Because gratitude isn’t just a feeling—it’s a discipline.
And when your soul learns to bless the Lord consistently,
you stop living from moment to moment…
and start living from memory to faith.
Prayer
Lord, help me not to forget Your goodness in my life. Remind me daily of Your mercy, Your faithfulness, and Your love. Let my heart remain grateful, anchored in all that You have already done. Amen.
