God Is Not Just Present—He Is Sustaining Everything
by Torrie Slaughter
Psalm 104 invites us to slow down and really look.
Not just glance at creation—but consider it.
“O Lord my God, You are very great! You are clothed with splendor and majesty.”
From the heavens stretched out like a curtain…
to the springs that flow through valleys…
to the animals that depend on His provision—
everything is sustained by God.
Not just created by Him—sustained by Him.
That’s the detail we often miss.
It’s easy to believe God started something.
It’s harder to trust that He’s actively maintaining it.
We live in a world that celebrates independence—figuring things out, making it happen, holding it all together.
But Psalm 104 gently corrects that mindset.
The earth doesn’t sustain itself.
Creation doesn’t provide for itself.
Even the rhythms of nature depend on God’s ongoing involvement.
“These all look to You, to give them their food in due season.” (Psalm 104:27)
If creation depends on God daily…
what makes us think we can thrive without Him?
This psalm isn’t just about nature—it’s about perspective.
You are not self-sustaining.
You are God-dependent.
And that’s not weakness—it’s design.
Because the same God who feeds the animals, waters the earth, and orders the seasons…
is the same God who is holding your life together right now.
Even in the areas you’re worried about.
Even in the places that feel uncertain.
So instead of striving to control everything,
what if you paused and trusted the One who already is?
Where have you been trying to sustain what only God can manage?
What would it look like to release that today?
Because when you recognize God as Sustainer, not just Creator…
you stop carrying what was never yours to hold.
Prayer
Lord, You are the One who sustains all things, including me. Help me to trust You daily instead of trying to carry what only You can handle. Teach me to rest in Your provision, Your timing, and Your care. Amen.
