Friday, May 15, 2026 – Psalm 111

Reverence Before Victory

by Torrie Slaughter

David ran toward Goliath, but long before he faced a giant, he had learned how to fear the Lord.

Psalm 111 closes with this truth:

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.”

Not fear of people.
Not fear of failure.
Not fear of being misunderstood.

Fear of the Lord.

David could stand before Goliath because he had already settled who was greater.

Many believers are waiting for courage to arrive, but courage grows where reverence lives.

When God becomes bigger in your heart, giants become smaller in your sight.

Victory is not built in public moments. It is formed in private surrender.

David’s battle was public.
His confidence was private.

And that is where true discipline begins.

Reflection:

What fear has become louder than your reverence for God?

Prayer:

Lord, teach me to fear You rightly so I do not fear everything else wrongly. Build courage in me through reverence, trust, and obedience. Help me face what I have avoided and trust that You are greater than every giant before me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Action Step:

Face one avoided conversation, decision, or step of obedience this week with faith instead of fear.
