Walk Through the Gate
by Torrie Slaughter
There comes a moment when waiting turns into walking.
A door opens.
An assignment begins.
A prayer is answered.
A new season arrives.
And suddenly, what you prayed for requires your participation.
“Open to me the gates of righteousness, that I may enter through them and give thanks to the Lord.” (Psalm 118:19)
We often pray for open doors, but we do not always prepare to walk through them.
Favor has weight.
Opportunity requires stewardship.
Calling demands maturity.
David understood this. Promotion was never just about access—it was about responsibility.
And many believers ask for the crown without preparing for the cost.
This Psalm reminds us that entry into new seasons should be marked by gratitude, not pride.
“The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.” (Psalm 118:22)
God often builds His greatest work through what others overlooked.
The rejection, the delay, the hidden season—none of it was wasted.
It was preparation.
Jehovah Raah, our Shepherd, leads with purpose. He does not rush sheep into places they are not ready to sustain.
Sometimes delay was protection.
Sometimes waiting was mercy.
Sometimes the closed door was love.
“This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24)
This is not just celebration.
It is perspective.
Today is not random.
It is stewardship.
Walk through the gate with humility.
Carry favor carefully.
And remember: the goal was never the platform.
It was always the presence of God.
Prayer
Father, thank You for every closed door that protected me and every open door that revealed Your timing. Prepare my heart for the places You are leading me. Help me carry favor with humility and responsibility. Remove pride, fear, and hesitation, and teach me to walk boldly where You have called me. Let gratitude lead me into every new season. Thank You for being my Shepherd and guiding every step. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Action Step
Identify one door God may be opening in your life right now.
Instead of only praying for confirmation, ask:
Am I prepared to steward what I’m asking for?
Pray for maturity, not just opportunity.
