“Eyes Wide Open: Grace to Keep Going”
Psalm 119:17–32
"Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of Your law.” – Psalm 119:18
by Torrie Slaughter
There are moments in our walk with God when we’re not looking for something flashy—we’re just asking for clarity. “Open my eyes, Lord…” That’s the heart of today’s passage.
Psalm 119:17–32 is both a whisper for help and a shout of determination. It’s the voice of someone who knows that life without God’s Word is like walking through fog—but with it, the path becomes clear.
🙏 Seeking God’s Guidance (Verses 17–24)
“Deal bountifully with Your servant, that I may live and keep Your word.”
This is more than a request for blessing—it’s a declaration of dependence.
We cannot live out the Word of God without the grace of God. The psalmist knows this, and so do we.
And then comes that simple, powerful prayer: “Open my eyes…”
How often do we read the Word, but miss the wonder?
These verses call us back to approach Scripture not as scholars, but as seekers—eyes open, hearts ready.
🧎🏾 Clinging to God’s Promises (Verses 25–32)
“My soul clings to the dust… revive me according to Your Word.”
That line hits hard.
It’s the voice of someone at their lowest. And yet—right there in the dust—they reach for life. Not from a motivational quote or a temporary fix, but from God’s Word.
Verse 26 reminds us: Transparency unlocks transformation.
When we confess our ways, God meets us. And from there, the psalmist shifts from sorrow to strength—meditating, running, clinging, choosing the path of faithfulness.
This is the blueprint for revival:
📍 Acknowledge where you are.
📍 Ask God to teach you.
📍 Run in the path of His commands.
📖 Reflection Question:
What area of your life feels dry or stuck right now—and how might God’s Word breathe life into it?
🙏 Prayer:
Heavenly Father, open our eyes to the wonder in Your Word. Where we are weary, revive us. Where we are uncertain, guide us. Help us cling to Your promises and choose the path of faithfulness. Thank You for grace that lifts us from the dust and strengthens us to walk again. Amen.
