Strength for the Stretch

by Torrie Slaughter

There are seasons when growth feels less like victory and more like stretching.

God is calling you forward, but everything in you feels tired.

You are still trusting.
Still praying.
Still showing up.

But if you are honest, part of you is asking:

“Lord…how much longer?”

Psalm 119 answers from that place.

“My soul clings to the dust; give me life according to Your word!” (Psalm 119:25)

This is not polished faith.

This is honest faith.

The psalmist is weary, but he does not run from God—he runs to Him.

That is maturity.

Not pretending you are strong.

Knowing where strength comes from.

Sometimes believers think spiritual authority means never feeling heavy.

But true authority is learning how to bring heaviness to the right altar.

The world says numb it.
Pride says hide it.
Religion says perform through it.

But God says bring it here.

“Make me understand the way of Your precepts, and I will meditate on Your wondrous works.” (Psalm 119:27)

Jehovah Raah, our Shepherd, does not shame weary sheep.

He leads them.

He restores them.

He teaches them how to keep moving without losing themselves.

Leadership fatigue often comes when people are carrying assignments without regularly returning to the Shepherd.

Even strong people need replenishing.

Even called people need rest.

Even faithful people need refreshing.

“I will run in the way of Your commandments when You enlarge my heart!” (Psalm 119:32)

Notice that.

Not dragging.

Running.

But first—God enlarges the heart.

Before the pace increases, the capacity must.

Maybe this season is not delay.

Maybe it is stretching.

God is preparing you to carry what you have been praying for.

And stretching is uncomfortable…

…but necessary.

Prayer

Father, when my soul feels heavy, remind me where to run. Thank You that I do not have to hide my weariness from You. Give me life according to Your Word and strengthen me where I feel stretched. Enlarge my heart for the assignment ahead and teach me to depend on You daily. Restore my joy, renew my mind, and help me trust that even uncomfortable seasons are part of Your preparation. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Action Step

Be honest with God today about where you feel weary.

Not the polished version.
The real one.

Write one sentence beginning with:

“Lord, I feel stretched in…”

Then pray over it and ask Him for strength, not just escape.
