When You Feel Forgotten

by Torrie Slaughter

The longest psalm in Scripture concludes with a deeply personal prayer. The psalmist is not standing on a mountaintop of victory. He is crying out from a place of need. He asks God to consider his affliction, deliver him, plead his cause, and revive him according to His Word.

What makes this passage so powerful is that the psalmist does not hide his struggle. He brings it directly to God.

Many believers mistakenly think that faith requires pretending everything is fine. Yet Scripture repeatedly shows us men and women who brought their fears, disappointments, questions, and sorrows before the Lord. They understood that honesty before God is not weakness—it is worship.

As we begin this week reflecting on God's next assignment, we may find ourselves carrying unresolved grief, unanswered questions, or lingering disappointments. David mourned. Thomas doubted. Mary wept outside the tomb. Yet none of those moments disqualified them from God's purposes.

The psalmist ends with these words:

"I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek Your servant." (Psalm 119:176)

What a comforting reminder. Even when we feel lost, God is still the Shepherd who seeks His sheep.

Reflection

What burden have you been carrying that God is inviting you to place before Him today?

Prayer

Father, thank You for being the Shepherd who never stops seeking Your people. Help me bring my whole heart before You and trust that You have not forgotten me. Amen.
