Faithful in a Difficult Place

by Torrie Slaughter

Psalm 120 is the first of the Songs of Ascents. It begins with a cry from someone living among people who do not share his values or love for God.

The psalmist longs for peace, yet finds himself surrounded by conflict.

Many believers understand this tension. We desire to honor God, yet we live in a world that often celebrates the very things Scripture warns against. At times it can feel exhausting to remain faithful.

Yet this psalm reminds us that our environment does not determine our devotion.

Peter would soon discover this truth after being restored by Jesus. His assignment would place him in hostile environments, difficult conversations, and moments requiring courage. God's call was not dependent upon comfortable circumstances.

Neither is ours.

Walking into God's next assignment often requires remaining faithful where we are before God moves us somewhere else.

The question is not whether our surroundings are ideal.

The question is whether our hearts remain aligned with Him.

Reflection

How can you pursue God's peace even in places where conflict surrounds you?

Prayer

Lord, help me remain faithful regardless of my circumstances. Let my life reflect Your peace even when the world around me does not. Amen.
