Lift Your Eyes Higher

by Torrie Slaughter

Few passages have comforted God's people more than Psalm 121.

"I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help."

The psalmist immediately answers his own question:

"My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth."

As the disciples waited between Christ's ascension and the coming of the Holy Spirit, they found themselves in a season of uncertainty. The promise had been given, but the fulfillment had not yet arrived.

Waiting seasons often reveal where we look for help.

Do we look to our own abilities?

Do we look to other people?

Do we look to circumstances?

Or do we lift our eyes to the Lord?

Psalm 121 reminds us that God never slumbers. He never loses sight of His children. He watches over our going out and our coming in.

While we wait for direction, God remains fully attentive.

Reflection

Where have you been looking for help that God wants you to entrust to Him?

Prayer

Father, teach me to lift my eyes above my circumstances and place my confidence in You. Thank You for watching over every step of my journey. Amen.
