Looking Up When You Need Mercy

by Torrie Slaughter

Psalm 123 paints a simple yet profound picture:

"Unto thee lift I up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens."

The psalmist compares himself to a servant watching the hand of a master, waiting for direction and mercy.

This image captures the posture every believer needs.

The closer David came to the end of his life, the more he understood that success was never about his strength. It was always about God's mercy.

The same truth appears in Acts 3. The lame man was healed not because of human power, but because of God's grace working through surrendered people.

As we conclude this week, we are reminded that our next assignment is not sustained by talent, experience, influence, or determination.

It is sustained by God's mercy.

The believer who keeps looking up will never lose sight of the One who provides everything needed for the journey.

Reflection

What would change if you approached today's challenges from a place of dependence rather than self-reliance?

Prayer

Father, keep my eyes fixed on You. Remind me that every good thing comes from Your hand and that Your mercy is sufficient for every assignment You place before me. Amen.
