If the Lord Had Not Been on Our Side

There are moments in life when we can clearly see that we would not have made it without God's intervention.

Psalm 124 is a testimony of those moments.

David reflects on what could have happened if the Lord had not been on Israel's side. The enemies were stronger. The dangers were real. The threats were overwhelming. Yet God preserved His people.

Notice that the psalm does not deny the reality of the battle. Instead, it magnifies the faithfulness of God within the battle.

Many of us can look back and identify seasons where God's hand protected us from dangers we never fully understood. Some battles were visible. Others were spiritual. Some victories came through dramatic breakthroughs. Others came through quiet endurance.

What is striking about this psalm is that David gives no credit to human strength. He does not celebrate military strategy, personal wisdom, or political power. He points directly to the Lord.

"Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth." (Psalm 124:8)

As we continue considering God's next assignment, it is important to remember that every new season is built upon the faithfulness of God in previous seasons.

Before looking ahead, take a moment to remember where God has already carried you.

The same God who delivered you before remains faithful today.

Prayer

Father, thank You for every battle You have carried me through. Help me never forget Your faithfulness. As I move forward, let my confidence rest in You rather than my own strength. Amen.
