Standing Firm When Everything Around You Shifts

The world constantly changes.

Circumstances change.
People change.
Opportunities change.
Seasons change.

Yet Psalm 125 presents a powerful picture of stability: "Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved but abides forever." (Psalm 125:1)

The psalmist compares those who trust God to a mountain firmly established and unshaken.

This does not mean believers never experience hardship. Mountains endure storms, wind, and changing seasons. Their strength comes from their foundation.

The same is true spiritually.

The disciples were about to enter a season unlike anything they had experienced before. The Church would be born. Persecution would come. The gospel would spread throughout the world.

Their stability would not come from favorable circumstances.

Their stability would come from the Lord.

The psalm continues with a beautiful promise: "As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds His people both now and forevermore." (Psalm 125:2)

What a comforting image.

God is not merely ahead of us calling us forward.

He is around us protecting.

He is behind us preserving.

He is beside us strengthening.

As one week ends and another begins, this psalm invites us to place our trust fully in the Lord and stand firm in His promises.

What circumstances are tempting you to become anxious or unstable, and how can you intentionally place your trust in God today?

Prayer

Lord, make my faith steady and unshakable. Help me trust You regardless of what changes around me. Thank You for surrounding Your people with Your presence, protection, and peace. Amen.
