Unshakeable Faith in a Shifting World
Psalm 125 | The Shift is Spiritual
by Torrie Slaughter
As we continue our journey through The Shift is Spiritual, I invite you to pause with me and lean into the truth and comfort found in Psalm 125. This short but mighty psalm speaks directly to the heart of what it means to be anchored in God while everything around us seems to move or change.
Let’s read it together:
“Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever.” – Psalm 125:1
What a declaration! When you trust in the Lord, you’re not standing on shaky ground—you’re rooted like Mount Zion: immovable, enduring, and elevated. This is not blind faith; it’s bold faith, rooted in the eternal character of our unchanging God.
Verse 2 continues:
“As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds his people both now and forevermore.”
Can you picture that? Just as we’re surrounded by challenges, spiritual warfare, and uncertainties, we are also surrounded—more powerfully—by the presence of God. He encircles us like a fortress. You may not always feelsurrounded by peace, but the truth of God’s Word says you are surrounded by Him.
🔥 What Makes Faith Unshakeable?
It's not comfort. It’s confidence in God's character.
It’s not popularity. It’s the presence of the Lord.
It’s not the absence of evil. It’s the assurance that evil won’t last.
Verse 3 acknowledges the tension:
“The scepter of the wicked will not remain over the land allotted to the righteous…”
God’s people may suffer under wickedness for a time—but only for a time. The enemy doesn’t get the final word. God will not allow prolonged oppression to shift His righteous ones into bitterness or compromise. Even in spiritual shifts, righteousness still wins.
🙌 Shift Insight: Stay Upright in a Crooked Culture
Verses 4 and 5 offer a prayer and a warning:
“Do good, O Lord, to those who are good… but those who turn to crooked ways the Lord will banish…”
There it is: the choice. The spiritual shift isn’t just external; it’s internal.
Will I walk in integrity, even when it’s hard?
Will I stay on the narrow path, even when the wide one is easier?
The psalm ends with, “Peace be on Israel.”
God’s desire for you is peace—but not peace that comes from passive living. It’s peace that comes from spiritual alignment. When you walk uprightly, even in a shifting world, your soul will remain still, settled, and strong in Him.
🛑 Pause & Reflect:
Where have I allowed fear to shake my faith?
Am I walking in spiritual integrity, even when no one sees?
Do I trust that God surrounds me—right now—with His protection and love?
🙏 Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being my fortress and my firm foundation. Help me to trust You in every shift, in every transition, in every unknown moment. Let my faith be like Mount Zion—unmoved, unshaken, unbothered by the noise of this world.
Surround me with Your presence. Guide me in righteousness. And let my life reflect the peace that comes from walking closely with You.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
