Standing When the Battle Is Long

by Torrie Slaughter

Psalm 129 is a testimony of endurance.

The psalmist reflects on the many afflictions God's people have faced, yet declares that their enemies did not ultimately prevail.

"Many a time they have afflicted me from my youth; yet they have not prevailed against me." (Psalm 129:2)

Sometimes the greatest miracle is not that the battle ends quickly.

Sometimes the miracle is that God gives us the strength to keep standing.

As we read about Stephen's bold witness and the persecution that follows, we see that faithfulness does not always lead to comfort. Yet even in suffering, God's purposes continue to advance.

Jehovah Nissi reminds us that the Lord is our banner not only in moments of victory but also in seasons of opposition.

The enemy may attack your peace.
He may challenge your faith.
He may try to convince you that God has abandoned you.

But the same God who carried His people through every generation is carrying you today.

The battle you are facing does not define your future.

The One who stands over your life does.

Reflection

Where do you need God's strength to help you remain faithful through a difficult season?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for being my banner in every battle. When I grow weary, remind me that You are faithful and that Your purposes cannot be stopped. Strengthen me to keep standing in faith. Amen.
