Waiting With Hope

by Torrie Slaughter

Psalm 130 begins with a desperate cry:

"Out of the depths I have cried to You, O LORD." (Psalm 130:1)

Yet by the end of the psalm, that cry has become confident hope.

The psalmist declares:

"I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in His word I do hope." (Psalm 130:5)

Waiting is one of the hardest parts of the Christian life. We pray, we trust, and we long to see God move, but often His timing does not match our own.

Still, waiting is never wasted.

A builder does not rush the foundation because everything that follows depends upon it. Likewise, God often uses seasons of waiting to strengthen our faith and deepen our dependence upon Him.

As we conclude this week reflecting on building what Heaven can defend, we are reminded that God's greatest work is often happening beneath the surface.

He is shaping our character.
He is strengthening our trust.
He is teaching us to rely on Him.

Jehovah Nissi is not simply the God who gives victory.

He is the God who remains with us until the victory comes.

So if you find yourself waiting today, do not lose heart.

Keep trusting.
Keep praying.
Keep building your life upon His Word.

The God who hears your cry is faithful to complete what He has begun.

Reflection

What promise of God do you need to continue trusting while you wait?

Prayer

Father, thank You that You are working even when I cannot see it. Teach me to wait with hope and to trust that Your plans for my life are good. Help me build my faith upon Your unchanging Word. In Jesus' name, Amen.
