🌿 His Love Holds When Everything Else Feels Like It's Falling Apart

by Torrie Slaughter

Reading Focus: Psalm 136 | 1 Kings 19 | Acts 12:1–23 | Proverbs 17:14–15

💔 When the Fire Fades and Fear Follows

You would think calling down fire from heaven would be enough to silence fear—but not for Elijah. In 1 Kings 19, we meet a prophet on the run. After his greatest public victory, he’s emotionally and spiritually undone. This is the untold part of the battle: the aftermath.

And it’s here that Psalm 136 becomes more than a song—it becomes a lifeline.

“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever.”
(Psalm 136:1)

When everything else shifts—when the adrenaline crashes, the hope dims, and the silence feels heavier than Jezebel’s threats—His love still endures. That’s not fluff. That’s foundation.

🌀 Repetition as Rescue

Psalm 136 repeats one line 26 times:

“His steadfast love endures forever.”

That’s not poetic excess—it’s spiritual warfare. Every time the psalmist recalls a moment in Israel’s journey (from creation to conquest), he anchors it with the unchanging truth: God's love didn't quit. Not in slavery. Not in the wilderness. Not in battle.

And it won’t quit on you either.

🌌 Deliverance, Even in the Darkness

“To Him who struck down the firstborn of Egypt… who led His people through the wilderness…”
(Psalm 136:10,16)

Behind every act of deliverance is a God who sees the full picture. Acts 12 echoes this truth. James is killed, Peter is imprisoned, and the early church is praying. The story looks bleak. But while Peter sleeps in chains, an angel is already en route. Deliverance is moving—even when no one sees it yet.

God doesn’t just show up in miracles. He’s moving in the midnight.

🧭 The Wilderness Still Leads to Promise

“To Him who gave their land as a heritage… for His steadfast love endures forever.”
(Psalm 136:21–22)

The wilderness wasn’t the end. Neither is your current trial. God leads His people through—never to leave them stuck in the struggle.

Even when Elijah was ready to give up, God provided food, rest, a gentle whisper, and a renewed mission. Love didn’t leave him in the cave. It led him to purpose.

🛑 Midweek Pause: Say It Until You Believe It

Take a moment today and declare what Psalm 136 affirms:

  • His love endures in my weariness.

  • His love endures in my confusion.

  • His love endures when I'm waiting.

  • His love endures when I feel forgotten.

  • His love endures—even here.

Prayer

LORD,
When my faith feels fragile and my emotions threaten to overwhelm me, remind me that Your love still endures. Help me to see beyond the immediate, and rest in the truth of Your faithfulness. Thank You for every hidden victory and every unseen rescue. May I worship You not only after the fire falls, but in the whisper, the cave, and the waiting. Amen.
