Fully Known, Fully Loved

by Torrie Slaughter

Key Verse

"O Lord, thou hast searched me, and known me." — Psalm 139:1

One of the deepest human desires is to be truly known.

At the same time, one of our greatest fears is that if people knew everything about us, they might reject us.

Psalm 139 reveals a beautiful truth about God.

He already knows everything.

Every thought.
Every fear.
Every struggle.
Every victory.
Every hidden wound.
Every unanswered question.

And yet He still loves us.

David begins by marveling at God's intimate knowledge of his life. God knows when he sits down and when he rises. God understands his thoughts from afar. There is nowhere David can go where God is not present.

This psalm dismantles the false identities many people carry.

Some believe they are forgotten.
Some believe they are overlooked.
Some believe they are too broken to be used by God.
Others believe they must perform perfectly to earn God's acceptance.

Psalm 139 speaks directly to each of those lies.

You are seen.

You are known.

You are intentionally created.

"I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made." (Psalm 139:14)

This is not a declaration of pride. It is a declaration of gratitude. David recognizes that his life is not an accident but the result of God's intentional design.

As we conclude this week focused on identity and discipleship, Psalm 139 brings us to the foundation of it all.

Our identity does not begin with what we do for God.

Our identity begins with being known by God.

Before Elijah stood on Mount Carmel, God knew him.
Before Peter preached to Gentiles, God knew him.
Before Paul would carry the Gospel to nations, God knew him.
Before you took your first breath, God knew you.

The psalm ends with a courageous prayer:

"Search me, O God, and know my heart."

This is the prayer of a true disciple.

Not "Lord, change everyone else."

Not "Lord, explain everything."

But "Lord, search me."

Transformation begins when we invite God to reveal what He already sees.

The wonderful news is that the One who searches us is also the One who loves us.

Reflection

What area of your heart might God be inviting you to surrender so that you can walk more fully in the identity He has given you?

Prayer

Father, thank You for knowing me completely and loving me perfectly. Help me reject every false identity and embrace the truth of who I am in You. Search my heart, reveal anything that is not pleasing to You, and lead me in Your everlasting way. Thank You that I am seen, known, and loved by You. In Jesus' name, amen.

Weekend Encouragement

As you prepare for a new week, remember this: your identity is not found in your past, your accomplishments, your failures, or the opinions of others. Your identity is found in the God who created you, redeemed you, and calls you His own. Walk confidently beneath His banner, knowing that you are fully known and fully loved.
