Unshaken in the Storm
by Torrie Slaughter
Scriptures: 2 Kings 23:31–25:30, Acts 22:17–23:10, Psalm 2, Proverbs 18:13
What happens when it looks like the world is falling apart—but God is still sitting on the throne?
Psalm 2 opens with rebellion. Chaos. Resistance. But before fear has time to settle in, we’re reminded of one anchoring truth:
God is not moved. God is not mocked. God is not overthrown.
This is the confidence we hold to when storms rise and nations rage.
🌍 A World at War with God
“Why do the nations conspire… the rulers band together against the Lord and His Anointed?” (v. 1–2)
The closing chapters of 2 Kings are tragic. Kings rise and fall. The temple is burned. God’s people are exiled. But beneath the collapse, something deeper is happening: God is allowing the storm so His Word will be honored.
In Acts 22, Paul stands before an angry crowd. His testimony stirs rage, not revival. But he is unshaken—because he’s rooted in the calling of Christ.
Rebellion doesn’t stop God’s plan. It reveals who’s really submitted to it.
👑 God Still Reigns
“The One enthroned in heaven laughs…” (v. 4)
Heaven is not pacing in anxiety. God laughs—not from mockery, but from divine certainty. His plan will not fail. His King—Jesus—has already been installed on Zion.
The same God who warned Israel through prophets and carried them into exile is the God who raised Christ and entrusted Paul with His message.
Storms do not threaten the foundation when the foundation is the Word.
🙌🏽 Honor the Son
“Serve the Lord with fear… kiss the Son… Blessed are all who take refuge in Him.” (vv. 11–12)
This Psalm doesn’t just speak to kings and rulers—it speaks to us. Will we rebel—or revere? Resist—or take refuge?
When we “kiss the Son,” we align our lives under the authority of Christ. We say, “You reign here… in my family, my thoughts, my future.”
It’s the safest place to be: fully surrendered, completely secure.
🌀 Reflection Questions:
Am I resisting God in any area of my life—even subtly?
When the world rages, do I react—or rest in His sovereignty?
Is my life marked by reverence for Jesus, or casual familiarity?
🙏🏽 Prayer:
Father,
You reign above every storm. You are seated on the throne, and Your Son rules with power and mercy. Help us to honor Jesus not just with our lips, but with our lives. Teach us to rest in Your plan and take refuge in Your presence. We trust You in the chaos. We serve You with reverence. And we root ourselves in Your unshakable truth.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
🔁 Next Step:
Say this declaration out loud today: “Jesus is King over my life. His Word is my foundation. His reign is my peace.”Write it somewhere visible to remind yourself daily who’s really in control.
