Day 196 The Heart That Hides in Him

God is not shaken. He is not surprised. While the world feels unstable, His throne remains unmovable. His eyes see everything—the injustice, the pain, the prideful heart. And He calls us to trust Him enough to lay down our desire to fix or flee.

🛡️ The Heart That Hides in Him

by Torrie Slaughter

Psalm 11:1–7

“In the Lord I take refuge.” (Psalm 11:1 NIV)

These words are more than a quiet confession—they are a battle cry against fear and pride. In a world where our natural instinct is to control, escape, or fix everything ourselves, the psalmist gives us a better blueprint: Run to God and remain in Him.

🏃‍♀️ The Posture of Refuge

“In the Lord I take refuge.”

Refuge isn’t found in a change of scenery or in people agreeing with us. Refuge is found in a Person—Jesus Christ. The psalmist reminds us that trust is a posture of the heart, not just a phrase we say.

But pride whispers: “You’re strong enough to figure this out. Why bother God?”
True honor begins when we surrender that lie and choose His presence over our performance.

🎯 When the Foundations Are Shaken

“The wicked bend their bows… When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (Psalm 11:2-3 NIV)

Life’s pressures make us want to flee or fight—but God invites us to stand firm in Him. He examines our hearts in these moments, not our ability to hold everything together.

When you feel overwhelmed, ask yourself: Am I fleeing into prideful independence or pressing into God’s protection?

👑 The King on the Throne

“The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord is on his heavenly throne.” (Psalm 11:4 NIV)

God is not shaken. He is not surprised. While the world feels unstable, His throne remains unmovable. His eyes see everything—the injustice, the pain, the prideful heart. And He calls us to trust Him enough to lay down our desire to fix or flee.

✨ The Reward of Surrender

“For the Lord is righteous, he loves justice; the upright will see his face.” (Psalm 11:7 NIV)

This is our ultimate hope: God’s justice will prevail, and the upright will see His face. But this vision isn’t reserved for eternity alone. Each time we choose His blueprint over our own, we experience glimpses of His presence and peace.

🙏 A Prayer for Today

Heavenly Father,
You are my refuge and strength. Forgive me for the times I’ve tried to fix things in my own pride instead of resting in Your care. Teach me to trust Your throne even when my foundations feel shaken. I long to see Your face—help me honor You today by surrendering every anxious thought and prideful plan.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

💡 Reflection & Next Step

Ask yourself: Where have I been running instead of resting?
📖
Action: Write down one area where you’ve been tempted to flee or take control. Pray Psalm 11:1 over it and declare: “Lord, I take refuge in You.”
