My Times Are in Your Hands—Even When I’m Broken

by Torrie Slaughter

📖 “But I trust in you, Lord; I say, ‘You are my God.’ My times are in your hands…” – Psalm 31:14–15a (NIV)

🔍 Reflection:

Sometimes faith looks like tears on the altar. Psalm 31:9–18 is raw, messy, and painfully human. David holds nothing back—his soul, his sorrow, even his sense of abandonment. And yet, within these verses, we find the pulse of true faith: trusting God in the thick of the ache.

David writes, “My life is consumed by anguish... my strength fails... I have become like broken pottery.” Have you ever felt that way—forgotten, shattered, left behind by people you thought would stay? That’s not just ancient poetry; that’s real life. And here’s the miracle: David still calls God his God.

In a world that rewards image and strength, David gives us permission to be fully known—wounded, grieving, and still trusting. He shifts from lament to declaration in verse 14: “I trust in You, Lord. My times are in Your hands.” That’s not resignation. That’s release. That’s the courage to believe that God’s hands are safer than your own plans.

We close this week with a reminder that rebuilding doesn’t skip the broken places. Ezra and the returning exiles faced opposition, fear, and failure—but their trust was rooted in God's Word and His timing. Likewise, David’s cry becomes a confession: “Let Your face shine on Your servant.” Even in sorrow, he leans toward the light.

Your brokenness is not wasted. God sees it, hears it, and sits with you in it. But He doesn’t stop there—He heals, vindicates, and restores. And in the quiet aftermath of the storm, you’ll be able to say like David, “You are my God. My times are in Your hands.”

💡 Takeaway:

The God you cry to is the same God who will carry you. You don’t need to hide your grief or fake your strength. You need only to fall into the hands that hold time, truth, and tender mercy.

🙏🏽 Prayer:

Father, when I feel forgotten, remind me that You never lose sight of me. When my spirit is crushed, lift me. When the lies swirl around me, speak Your truth louder. I declare today that my times—my past, present, and future—are in Your hands. Shine Your face upon me, and be glorified even in my brokenness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

✨ Sunday Rest Prompt:

Spend some time today journaling about an area of your life where you feel like “broken pottery.” Instead of trying to fix it, release it to God in prayer. Then, write Psalm 31:15 as a declaration at the bottom of the page:
“My times are in Your hands.”
