The Ever-Present Love of God
by Torrie Slaughter
Psalm 36
Psalm 36 opens with a sobering picture: sin whispers into the human heart, blinding us to truth and dulling our reverence for God (vv.1–2). Without Him, pride and deceit take root, leading us away from righteousness.
But in the very next breath, David shifts our focus from human corruption to divine perfection: “Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds” (v.5). God’s love is higher than the skies, deeper than the oceans, and stronger than any sin. His righteousness is unshakable, His judgments are flawless.
For those who take refuge in Him, God offers more than protection—He provides abundance: “They feast on the abundance of your house… you give them drink from the river of your delights” (v.8). In His presence we find safety, joy, and satisfaction the world could never supply.
The psalm closes with a prayer for God’s steadfast love to continue over His people (v.10). This isn’t just a comfort—it’s a daily call to remain close to His heart, allowing His love to transform us from the inside out.
When the world feels dark, His love remains our firm foundation—steady, unshakable, and eternally secure.
Next Step: Spend 5 minutes today thanking God for specific ways you’ve experienced His love and faithfulness. Write them down, and keep the list somewhere you can see when you feel discouraged.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for a love that never fails; help me take refuge in You and live daily in the light of Your steadfast love.
