Praying Before the Battle, Not After the Breakdown
by Torrie Slaughter
Psalm 20 is a prayer spoken before the outcome is visible.
This is what healing looks like when faith begins to replace anxiety. The Psalm doesn’t describe the fight in detail. It describes trust in advance. “May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble.” Not after. In it.
This Psalm teaches us how to slow down and pray ahead of emotional impact. Many of us only pray once we’re overwhelmed—but healing matures when we learn to bring God into the moment before panic sets in.
Read Psalm 20 slowly and notice how communal it is. This is not a lonely prayer. Healing was never meant to be carried alone. Jehovah Rophe strengthens us through covering, intercession, and shared faith.
Let this Psalm reset how you prepare for difficult conversations, decisions, or memories. Healing isn’t always reactive—it can be anticipatory.
Prayer Pause:
“Lord, meet me before fear does.”
Healing Step:
Think about one situation coming up this week that you’re tempted to worry about. Pray Psalm 20 over it now, before it happens.
