Beyond the Shadows: Be Still and Know

by Torrie Slaughter

Reading Focus: Psalm 46

When the world shakes, Psalm 46 steadies our hearts: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”He is not distant or distracted—He is with us, right in the middle of the chaos.

The psalmist paints pictures of mountains falling and waters roaring—moments that would naturally stir fear. Yet, anchored in God’s presence, the declaration is bold: “We will not fear.” Why? Because the Lord Almighty is both our fortress and our peace.

And then comes the invitation that silences our striving: “Be still, and know that I am God.” This is more than a call to quiet; it’s an invitation to trust. To stop wrestling with shadows of fear, and rest in the reality of God’s unshakable reign.

💡 Reflection Question: Where do I need to stop striving and simply be still, trusting that God is already at work?

Prayer:
Lord, You are my refuge and strength. Teach me to be still when my heart wants to race ahead in fear. Help me rest in the confidence that You are exalted above all, and You are with me always. Amen.
