The Rock That Is Higher
by Torrie Slaughter
There are moments when life’s storms roar so fiercely that our hearts feel faint. Where can I go when the weight is too heavy? David gives us the answer in Psalm 61: “From the ends of the earth I call to You, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” (vv. 1–2)
David knew his own strength wasn’t enough. He needed something immovable—God, the Rock above the chaos. And isn’t that our story too? We try to hold it all together, only to realize the safest place is surrendering it into God’s hands.
David paints two pictures of God: a strong tower against the foe (v. 3) and the shelter of His wings (v. 4). He is both a fortress and Father—mighty enough to defend us, tender enough to draw us close. That’s the identity we live from: children covered, protected, and secured.
✨ Takeaway:
Running to the Rock isn’t weakness—it’s wisdom. Your calling is not to carry the storm alone, but to rest in the refuge of God’s presence.
