Rise & Reign: God Holds the Pillars Firm
by Torrie Slaughter
(Psalm 75:1–10)
Have you ever been awake at 2 a.m., heart racing with anxious thoughts? Psalm 75 speaks into that place of unrest with a voice as steady as the mountains: “We give thanks to You, O God… for Your Name is near” (v.1). Our gratitude isn’t rooted in calm circumstances—it’s grounded in the nearness of God.
The psalmist continues: “When the earth and all its people quake, it is I who hold its pillars firm” (v.3). What a picture of security! While the world shakes with uncertainty, God grips the foundations. If He holds the pillars of creation steady, surely He holds our lives as well.
The psalm also reminds us of God’s justice: “It is God who judges: He brings one down, He exalts another” (v.7). When injustice or chaos tempts us to despair, this truth calls us back to trust. God sees, God knows, and God will act in His time.
Psalm 75 begins and ends with thanksgiving: “I will declare this forever; I will sing praise to the God of Jacob” (v.9). When the world trembles, worship anchors us. We don’t sing to deny the quake, but to declare that our God is greater than it.
Prayer
Lord, when life feels unsteady, remind me that You are near. You hold the pillars firm, You judge with righteousness, and You lift up the righteous in Your time. Let my worship rise above my worry, and let my heart rest in Your unshakable presence. Amen.
