Endure in Truth: Guarding What Cannot Be Stolen

Reflections on Psalm 81

“Sing for joy to God our strength; shout aloud to the God of Jacob!” (v.1). Psalm 81 begins with celebration—God who delivered His people deserves their praise. Worship is more than song; it’s protection, guarding our hearts from wandering after lesser loves.

But then God’s voice breaks in: “But my people would not listen to me; Israel would not submit to me” (v.11). Here is the ache of a Father longing to bless His children, yet watching them turn away. His plea is clear: “If my people would only listen… how quickly I would subdue their enemies” (v.13–14).

The psalm closes with a promise: “Open wide your mouth and I will fill it… with honey from the rock I would satisfy you”(v.10, 16). What a picture—sweetness flowing from the hardest places, abundance waiting in surrender.

Endurance in truth means not just singing God’s praise but heeding His voice. Today, may we be a people who listen, obey, and discover that in Christ, the Shepherd of our souls, every burden is lifted and every hunger truly satisfied.
