Reading: Psalm 84

There’s a different kind of exhaustion that settles in when you’ve been searching for peace everywhere but the right place. Psalm 84 opens with that ache:

“My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord.”

This isn’t casual devotion—it’s desperation. The psalmist isn’t just looking for comfort; he’s longing for home. Like a sparrow seeking a safe nest, his soul knows it belongs near God’s altar, where rest and refuge meet.

Maybe that’s where you are—tired of running, tired of trying, tired of pretending you’re okay. The psalmist reminds us that even in the “Valley of Baka,” the valley of weeping, God’s presence turns dry ground into springs. The road of tears becomes the path to renewal.

And then comes this promise:

“The Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor.”

He is light for the path ahead and protection for the heart within. No good thing does He withhold from those who walk with Him.

Reflection:
When your soul feels homeless, remember—God’s presence is still your address.

Prayer:
Lord, my heart longs for You more than comfort or control. Draw me close when I drift, and let Your presence be my rest. Be my sun when I’m weary and my shield when I’m afraid. One day with You is better than a thousand anywhere else. Amen.
