Restored Safety
by Torrie Slaughter
Psalm 3 is a prayer offered in the middle of pressure, not after it passes. David acknowledges fear, opposition, and unrest—but he refuses to let those voices define reality. Instead, he names God as shield, sustainer, and the lifter of his head. Restoration here begins with remembering who protects us when we lie down and when we rise.
As we consider the wider readings—judgment through the flood, repentance in the wilderness, and warnings about harmful paths—we see a God who both rescues and redirects. Jehovah Rophe restores our sense of safety by teaching us where refuge truly lies. Peace is not the absence of threat; it is confidence in God’s covering.
“But You, O LORD, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head.” — Psalm 3:3
Prayer
Lord, restore my sense of safety when fear tries to speak louder than truth. Teach me to rest under Your protection instead of striving to defend myself.
Reflection Question
