Psalm 106 : 13 – 31
How quickly we forget.
Psalm 106 : 13 begins, “But they soon forgot what He had done and did not wait for His plan to unfold.” The same people who sang at the Red Sea soon grumbled in the desert. Their story mirrors ours—we celebrate God’s miracles, then grow impatient when His next move takes too long. Forgetfulness is often the first step toward disobedience.
Israel’s idols weren’t just golden calves; they were symbols of misplaced trust. When life felt uncertain, they turned to what they could see and control. We do the same when we chase comfort, approval, or control instead of waiting on God’s timing. Yet even in rebellion, mercy kept reaching.
Verse 23 reveals that “Moses, His chosen one, stood in the breach.” One man’s intercession turned away judgment. That same mercy now stands for us through Jesus Christ—our greater Mediator—who continually prays for our restoration. God’s desire has never been to destroy but to deliver, even when we’ve drifted.
Finally, in verses 30–31, Phinehas acts courageously to stop a plague. His zeal for holiness reminds us that maturity sometimes looks like standing firm when compromise feels easier. Mercy matures us when it moves us from passive remembrance to active righteousness.
So today, let’s pause and remember—not just what God has done, but what He’s still redeeming in us. Forgetfulness leads to rebellion, but remembrance leads to revival.
Prayer
Lord, forgive me for the moments I’ve forgotten Your faithfulness. Thank You for standing in the gap through Jesus, my intercessor and redeemer. Teach me to wait for Your plan, trust Your timing, and stand firm in Your truth. Let remembrance renew my obedience today. Amen.
