Confidence in the Lord
by Torrie Slaughter
📖 Psalm 27:1 (NIV) – “The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?”
Fear Cannot Stand in the Presence of God’s Light
In Psalm 27:1-6, David declares unshakable confidence in God’s protection. He boldly proclaims that because the Lord is his light, salvation, and stronghold, he has no reason to fear.
💡 Light represents truth, clarity, and guidance. When God is our light, we are never lost, confused, or left in darkness.
🛡️ Salvation is our security. No enemy, no hardship, no trial can separate us from His deliverance.
🏰 A stronghold is a place of refuge. No attack of the enemy can remove us from the safety of God’s presence.
The world is filled with uncertainties, but this psalm reminds us that faith in God’s power replaces fear with confidence.
Dwelling in the Presence of God
📖 “One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.” (Psalm 27:4)
David’s greatest desire was not just protection but closeness with God. He longed to be in God’s presence, knowing that true peace is found not in the absence of problems but in the presence of the Lord.
✨ What does dwelling with God look like today?
Spending time in His Word, allowing His truth to shape our thoughts.
Seeking Him in prayer, trusting Him with every concern.
Worshiping Him, not just on Sundays, but daily in our actions and attitudes.
God’s Shelter in the Day of Trouble
📖 “For in the day of trouble He will keep me safe in His dwelling; He will hide me in the shelter of His sacred tent and set me high upon a rock.” (Psalm 27:5)
God’s protection is not just physical—it’s spiritual, emotional, and eternal. He lifts us above our circumstances and gives us a firm foundation to stand on.
🔹 Supporting Scripture:
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1)
“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for You are with me.” (Psalm 23:4)
Call to Action: Bold Faith Over Fear
As you reflect on Psalm 27:1-6, ask yourself:
✅ What fears do I need to surrender to God?
✅ Am I dwelling in God’s presence daily, or only seeking Him in crisis?
✅ Do I trust that He will set me “high upon a rock” when trouble comes?
Today, choose faith over fear. Rest in the confidence that God is your light, salvation, and stronghold.
