You Made It Because God Was on Your Side

Psalm 124 is the warrior’s victory song—a declaration that the only reason you survived the battle is because God stood between you and what came against you. As the pilgrims ascended toward Jerusalem, this psalm reminded them to look back and recognize every moment God intervened, delivered, and rescued them from what should have overwhelmed them.
Remember Who Was Fighting for You
“If the Lord had not been on our side… when people attacked us…” (Psalm 124:1–2)
The psalmist begins with a holy pause: Think about where you’d be without God. This is not fear-based reflection—it’s faith awakening. Every snare you escaped, every attack that didn’t succeed, every moment when pressure didn’t crush you—God was on your side. When the enemy fights harder, this truth becomes your anchor: You are not fighting alone.
You Were Saved From What Should Have Destroyed You
“They would have swallowed us alive… the flood would have engulfed us…” (Psalm 124:3–4)
The imagery is intense because the danger was real. The psalmist doesn’t downplay the threat; he magnifies God’s rescue. Warriors don’t pretend the battle isn’t hard—they testify that God is greater than any flood, storm, or attack. Whatever tried to take you out didn’t win, not because you were strong, but because God was faithful.
Your Help Comes From the Only Unshakable Source
“Our help is in the name of the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” (Psalm 124:8)
The week ends with the same truth that began it: Your strength is not your own. Your help, your protection, your escape, your endurance—they all come from the Maker of everything. This verse isn’t just reassurance; it’s a battle cry for the days ahead.
Takeaway for the Warrior:
Psalm 124 calls you to end the week in victory. Look back and see God’s fingerprints on every escape, every rescue, every moment you were kept. The enemy fought hard—but God fought harder. And that’s why you’re still standing.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for being our Deliverer when the battle rages. Help us to see Your hand in every rescue and trust Your power in every trial. We declare with confidence today: our help is in the name of the Lord. Amen.
