Abundant Goodness: Trusting in God’s Faithfulness

by Torrie Slaughter

📖 “How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you, that you bestow in the sight of all, on those who take refuge in you.” (Psalm 31:19)

Life often brings uncertainty and trials, leaving us wondering whether God truly sees us. But in Psalm 31:19-24, David shifts his focus from distress to praising God for His abundant goodness. After crying out for help earlier in the psalm, he now declares with confidence that God is not only faithful but overflows with blessings for those who trust Him.

1️⃣ God’s Goodness Is More Than We Can Imagine

📖 “How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you.” (Psalm 31:19)

Have you ever struggled to believe that God has good things in store for you? In moments of suffering, it’s easy to focus on what’s missing instead of what God is preparing. But David reminds us that God’s goodness is not small or limited—it is abundant.

💡 Application:
✔ Even when you don’t see the full picture, trust that God is working for your good.
✔ God’s blessings
are not always immediate, but they are stored up for those who fear Him.
✔ The best gifts from God—peace, joy, strength, and eternal hope—cannot be stolen by hardship.

📖 “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no human mind has conceived the things God has prepared for those who love Him.” (1 Corinthians 2:9)

2️⃣ God Hides and Protects Those Who Trust Him

📖 “In the shelter of your presence you hide them from all human intrigues; you keep them safe in your dwelling from accusing tongues.” (Psalm 31:20)

David knew what it meant to be pursued and falsely accused, yet he also knew that God was his true refuge. When life feels like an attack—whether from external circumstances or internal struggles—God provides a safe place in His presence.

💡 Application:
✔ Are you seeking God’s presence as your place of peace?
✔ No matter what others say or do,
God’s protection is greater than any accusation.
✔ The world may
try to harm you, but God’s dwelling is a fortress of security.

📖 “The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” (Proverbs 18:10)

3️⃣ God Hears Our Cries and Answers Us
📖 “Praise be to the Lord, for he showed me the wonders of his love when I was in a city under siege.” (Psalm 31:21)

Even in David’s darkest moments, he recognized God’s unfailing love. There were times when he felt cut off and alone, yet God never abandoned him.

Have you ever felt like your prayers weren’t being answered? Psalm 31 reminds us that God is always working—even when we don’t see immediate results.

💡 Application:
God is near even when we feel isolated or unheard.
✔ Praise Him
before the breakthrough, because He is always faithful.
✔ When under attack, remember past victories and trust in God’s continued deliverance.

📖 “I called on Your name, Lord, from the depths of the pit. You heard my plea.” (Lamentations 3:55-56)

4️⃣ Be Strong—God Rewards Those Who Hope in Him

📖 “Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord.” (Psalm 31:24)

David ends this psalm with a powerful encouragement—even when life is difficult, we can find strength in God’s faithfulness. Waiting on the Lord isn’t passive; it’s an act of trust, endurance, and expectation that God will move at the right time.

💡 Application:
Hold on to faith—God is never late.
Encourage others who may be struggling—remind them of God’s goodness.
Trust in God’s promises, even when circumstances try to shake your hope.

📖 “Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”(Galatians 6:9)

🙏 Prayer

Lord, thank You for Your abundant goodness. Even when I struggle to see it, I trust that You are working for my good. Hide me in Your presence, protect me from every attack, and remind me that You hear my prayers. Strengthen my heart so that I may wait on You with confidence, knowing that Your plans for me are perfect. I place my hope in You alone. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
