Psalm 34:11–22

The Nearness of God

by Torrie Slaughter

Psalm 34 reminds us that God’s provision isn’t only material—it’s relational.

David speaks directly to those who are brokenhearted, afflicted, and surrounded by trouble. He doesn’t minimize pain. He tells the truth: the righteous face many afflictions. But he also declares something even more powerful—the Lord delivers them from them all.

Jehovah Jireh provides by staying near when life feels heavy. Near to the brokenhearted. Near to those whose spirits feel crushed. Near enough to redeem what feels beyond repair.

This Psalm teaches us that deliverance doesn’t always look like instant rescue. Sometimes it looks like God sustaining you when you thought you couldn’t endure another moment.

Today’s Reflection:
Where do you need to stop measuring God’s nearness by relief—and start recognizing it through endurance?

Action Step:
Sit quietly with God today. Don’t rush the prayer. Let His nearness be enough.
