Psalm 35:1–16

When God Defends You

by Torrie Slaughter

Psalm 35 is raw—and deeply human.

David cries out for God to contend with those who contend against him. He’s not pretending everything is fine. He’s bringing injustice, opposition, and betrayal straight to the Lord.

Here we see Jehovah Jireh as defender. God provides protection not by teaching us how to fight better—but by reminding us who fights for us.

This Psalm invites us to release the urge to retaliate and instead place our trust in God’s justice. When we try to defend ourselves, we exhaust our strength. When we allow God to defend us, we preserve our peace.

Today’s Reflection:
Is there a battle you’ve been fighting that God has been waiting to handle?

Action Step:
Pray honestly today. Name the opposition—but leave the outcome in God’s hands.
