God Is Our Refuge—Be Still and Know
by Torrie Slaughter
📖 Psalm 46:1-11
This beautiful passage reminds us of God's unwavering presence and power, even in the midst of life's greatest challenges.
A Refuge in Times of Trouble
Psalm 46 begins with a powerful declaration: "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble" (Psalm 46:1, NIV). These words are a source of comfort and reassurance for us, especially when we find ourselves facing overwhelming circumstances. In the storms of life, God is our safe haven, our fortress of strength where we can find shelter and security.
Be Still and Know
As we continue reading, the psalmist urges us to "be still, and know that I am God" (Psalm 46:10, NIV). This verse reminds us of the importance of quieting our hearts and minds in the midst of chaos, and trusting in God's sovereignty. In a world filled with noise and distractions, it's essential to carve out moments of stillness to seek God's presence and hear His voice.
Victorious Overcomers
Throughout Psalm 46, we see a theme of victory and triumph over adversity. The psalmist proclaims, "The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress" (Psalm 46:7, NIV). No matter what challenges we may face, we can take heart knowing that God is fighting on our behalf. He is the one who brings victory out of defeat, light out of darkness, and hope out of despair.
💭 Reflection:
Chaos surrounds us—news headlines, personal struggles, uncertainty. But Psalm 46 reminds us of an unshakable truth: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”
🛑 When we feel overwhelmed, we must stop and remind ourselves: God is in control. The world may be unstable, but He is a strong fortress—a place of safety, peace, and restoration.
🔹 “Be still, and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10)
Stillness is not inactivity—it’s trust. It’s resting in the assurance that God fights for us, leads us, and secures us.
🔥 Challenge: Take 5 minutes today to be still before God. Surrender every fear and worry into His hands.
🙏 Prayer: Lord, help me to trust You as my refuge and strength. No matter what happens around me, I will stand firm in the knowledge that You are God. Amen.
