Resting in God's Timing
by Torrie Slaughter
📖 Key Verse: “Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from Him.” (Psalm 62:5)
In a world filled with noise and chaos, where do we find true peace and rest for our souls? How do we navigate the pressures of life, clinging to hope amidst the clamor of the world? These questions resonate deeply with each one of us, echoing the longing for stillness and tranquility in the midst of life's storms.
🔹 Reflection:
Waiting on God’s timing is hard. Sometimes, we feel like we have to take control of situations ourselves. But David reminds us that true peace comes from resting in God’s plan, not rushing to fix things on our own.
Psalm 62 is a timeless hymn that speaks directly to the heart of our search for peace and security.
The psalm opens with a powerful declaration of trust: "Truly my soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him." (Verse 1) These words resonate with a profound sense of confidence and assurance, as the psalmist acknowledges that true rest is found in God alone. It is a reminder that even in the midst of life's uncertainties, we can find solace in the unchanging nature of our Heavenly Father, who is our rock and our salvation.
As we journey through the psalm, we encounter vivid imagery that vividly depicts the fleeting nature of earthly treasures and the steadfastness of God's love. In verses 9-10, we read, "Surely the lowborn are but a breath, the highborn are but a lie. If weighed on a balance, they are nothing; together they are only a breath. Do not trust in extortion or put vain hope in stolen goods; though your riches increase, do not set your heart on them." These words paint a vivid picture of the transience of worldly wealth and power, highlighting the importance of placing our trust in God alone.
Yet, amidst the impermanence of earthly things, there is a sense of unwavering confidence in God's faithfulness. In verses 11-12, the psalmist declares, "One thing God has spoken, two things I have heard: 'Power belongs to you, God, and with you, Lord, is unfailing love'; and, 'You reward everyone according to what they have done.'" These words serve as a powerful reminder that God is our refuge and our strength, a fortress in times of trouble. He alone is worthy of our trust and our devotion, for in Him we find true rest and security.
💡 Spiritual Awareness:
Faith means trusting God’s timing, even when we don’t understand it.
When we rest in God, anxiety loses its power over us.
God is our refuge and source of hope—He will never fail us.
🙌 Prayer: Lord, teach me to rest in You. When I feel impatient, help me to trust that Your timing is perfect. My hope is in You alone. Amen.
