Let the Light of His Face Shine Upon You
by Torrie Slaughter
“May God be gracious to us and bless us and make His face shine on us—so that Your ways may be known on earth, Your salvation among all nations.” (Psalm 67:1–2)
Psalm 67 is more than a prayer for blessing—it's a blueprint for how the favor of God should flow through us, not just to us. It opens with a heartfelt cry for divine grace:
“May God be gracious to us and bless us and make His face shine upon us.”
Who hasn’t prayed something like that? We all want God's blessing, His presence, His smile. But the psalmist immediately reveals the purpose of that blessing: “So that Your ways may be known... Your salvation among all nations.”
Too often we seek blessing without asking why. But God never blesses us for selfish hoarding—He blesses us so we can become a reflection of His glory. A shining face is the sign of a radiant heart. When His light is on us, it's an invitation to others to come closer, to see what makes us different, to encounter the God who is full of mercy, justice, and truth.
Psalm 67 paints a vision of worship that spans the globe:
“May the peoples praise You, God… may the nations be glad and sing for joy.” (vv.3–4)
This is not just about personal peace—it’s a global call to praise. A reminder that God's love is for all people, all nations, all tongues. When we live lives marked by His light, we join in that global symphony, becoming both echo and evidence of His faithfulness.
The psalm ends with confidence:
“May God bless us still, so that all the ends of the earth will fear Him.” (v.7)
This is reverent awe—not fear that repels, but wonder that draws in. It’s the kind of life we’re called to live. A life that overflows. A life that moves from receiving to reflecting, from wilderness to witness.
🔄 Reflection:
Is your life radiating God’s presence, or are you dimming His light to stay comfortable?
When others observe your peace, your responses, your generosity—do they see His face shining through you?
🙏 Prayer:
Lord, may Your light shine on me—not just to bless me, but to make me a light for someone else today. Let my life point people to You. Use me as a vessel of grace and a witness to Your love, so that Your ways may be known and Your salvation experienced by all. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
