Day 88 When You Need God to Move Quickly A Reflection on Psalm 70
If you’re in a season where life feels overwhelming or uncertain—you don’t have to pretend you’re fine. You can pray like David did. You can admit you’re tired, worn down, and desperate for God to show up. And He will.

When You Need God to Move Quickly
By Torrie Slaughter
There are moments in life when we don’t have the words for long prayers—we just need God to move. Quickly.
That’s exactly where we find the psalmist in Psalm 70:1–5.
He opens with this raw, urgent plea:
“Make haste, O God, to deliver me! O Lord, make haste to help me!” (Psalm 70:1, ESV)
There’s no poetic buildup here. Just desperation. Honesty. And the beautiful truth that we can come to God like that—with urgency, with tears, with trembling voices and broken words.
🧎♂️ A Prayer for When You Feel Powerless
In verse 5, David writes:
“But I am poor and needy; hasten to me, O God! You are my help and my deliverer; O Lord, do not delay!” (Psalm 70:5)
What a humbling reminder. No matter how strong we appear on the outside or how long we’ve walked with the Lord, there are still days we feel small, helpless, and in need of rescue.
And here’s the good news: God is not offended by our weakness.
He’s drawn to it. He meets us there.
David didn’t pretend to be put together—he declared his need and reached for the only One who could truly deliver him.
🔁 When Circumstances Don’t Change, God Still Doesn’t Either
What’s powerful about Psalm 70 is not just the cry for help—it’s who the psalmist is crying to.
David doesn’t put his hope in changed circumstances.
He puts his hope in a faithful, unchanging God and calls Him “my help and my deliverer.”
That’s where we rest: not in the outcome, but in God’s character.
Even when the pressure doesn’t lift right away… even when the answer feels delayed… we cling to this truth:
God hears. God sees. God moves.
🙏 Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
In times of trouble, we run to You. Not because we’ve got it all together, but because You’re the only One who can hold us together. We confess our need for Your help, Your wisdom, and Your strength today. Thank You for being our constant, our refuge, and our rescuer. We trust You to deliver—in Your perfect timing.
Amen.
