“Promotion Comes from God”
by Torrie Slaughter
Psalm 75:1–10
Psalm 75 opens with a declaration of deep gratitude:
“We give thanks to You, O God; we give thanks, for Your name is near. We recount Your wondrous deeds.”(Psalm 75:1, ESV)
Even in seasons of uncertainty, thankfulness grounds us in the truth that God is not distant. He is near. He is working. He is just. And His timing is always perfect.
But this psalm quickly shifts from praise to perspective—reminding us where true elevation comes from:
“Not from the east or from the west… but it is God who executes judgment, putting down one and lifting up another.” (vv. 6–7)
This is where we pause and remember:
Promotion doesn’t come from performance.
Position doesn’t come from popularity.
It comes from God alone.
In a world obsessed with status, followers, and influence, Psalm 75 reorients our ambition. It reminds us that:
Your faithfulness matters more than your followers.
Your obedience matters more than your platform.
And your humility is more powerful than your hustle.
God sees the unseen sacrifices.
He knows the quiet "yes" when no one else applauds.
And when the time is right, He will lift you up—not for your glory, but for His.
The psalmist closes with a warning and a promise:
“All the horns of the wicked I will cut off, but the horns of the righteous shall be lifted up.” (Psalm 75:10)
This is God’s justice at work—resisting the proud and exalting the humble.
Not on our timeline. Not by our strategy. But by His divine wisdom.
🔄 Reflection:
Are you striving for promotion—or walking in faithful preparation?
Have you surrendered your timeline to God’s perfect plan?
🛐 Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I trust You to open the right doors at the right time.
Teach me to serve with joy while I wait, to stay humble in seasons of obscurity, and to walk in integrity when You bring increase.
May I never chase platforms, but always pursue Your presence.
Exalt only what brings You glory.
Amen.
