When You Forget What God Has Done
by Torrie Slaughter
There’s a quiet danger that doesn’t always feel like danger.
It doesn’t shout.
It doesn’t demand attention.
It simply settles in… unnoticed.
It’s called forgetting.
In Psalm 78:11, the writer says,
“They forgot what he had done, the wonders he had shown them.”
Not because God didn’t move.
Not because God wasn’t faithful.
But because life kept moving—and they stopped remembering.
This Psalm walks us through a pattern that feels all too familiar:
God provides…
God delivers…
God makes a way…
And yet, in verse 22, it says they “did not believe in God or trust in his deliverance.”
How is that possible?
Because memory fades when it isn’t intentionally revisited.
And when we forget what God has done, we begin to question what He can do.
That’s where peace starts to slip.
But here’s the beautiful truth—Jehovah Shalom, the God of Peace, doesn’t withdraw when we forget. He continues to provide, to guide, and to remain steady even when our hearts are not.
In verse 29, we see that despite their doubt,
“He gave them what they craved.”
Not because they earned it—but because He is faithful.
Today is an invitation to pause.
To remember.
To go back and recall the moments where God showed up in ways only He could.
Because peace isn’t just found in what God is doing right now—
it’s strengthened by remembering what He has already done.
Prayer
Lord, forgive me for the moments I’ve forgotten Your faithfulness. Bring back to my remembrance the ways You have provided, protected, and sustained me. Help me to anchor my trust in who You are, not just what I see. You are Jehovah Shalom—my peace that does not change. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

✅ Action Step
Write down three specific ways God has been faithful to you. Return to them this week whenever doubt tries to speak louder than truth.
