Someone needs to hear what you have learned about God—not because your experience makes God faithful, but because your testimony points toward the God who has always been faithful.

Don't Let the Story Stop With You

by Torrie Slaughter

Scripture Anchor:

“We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the LORD, and his might, and the wonders that he has done.” — Psalm 78:4

Some things are too important to keep to ourselves.

Psalm 78 begins with an instruction to remember, but remembrance isn't the final destination. What one generation knows about God must be told to the next.

The psalmist recounts God's works so that future generations would know Him, set their hope in Him, and not forget what He had done.

Notice the progression.

Someone remembers.
Someone tells.
Someone else learns.
And another generation has a reason to hope.

Yet Psalm 78 also shows what happens when God's people forget. They witnessed His provision and still questioned whether He could provide again.

That is one of the strange tendencies of the human heart: yesterday's miracle can become today's forgotten testimony.

But God is not confined to one generation's memory.

El Olam was God before we arrived. He is God while we are here. And He will remain God when another generation occupies the spaces we currently fill.

That means our testimony has a responsibility attached to it.

Someone needs to hear what you have learned about God—not because your experience makes God faithful, but because your testimony points toward the God who has always been faithful.

Tell them about the prayer He answered.

But also tell them about the prayer that took years.

Tell them about provision.

But also tell them how He sustained you when provision didn't arrive the way you expected.

Tell the whole story.

Because we're not merely raising people who know what God did.

We want generations who know who God is.

Heart Turn

What have you learned about God that should not end with you?

Choose one person today—a child, friend, family member, coworker, or someone you disciple—and intentionally share one testimony of God's faithfulness.

Prayer

Everlasting God, thank You that Your faithfulness did not begin with my generation and will not end with it. Help me remember Your works and faithfully tell what I have learned about You. Let my testimony point beyond me and toward You so that another generation will place their hope in the God who remains. Amen.
