Friday, September 18 — Psalm 62
God Alone
by Torrie Slaughter
This may be my favorite Psalm devotional of the week.
David keeps repeating an idea:
God alone.
My soul waits for God alone.
He alone is my rock.
He alone is my salvation.
Then David names competing sources of security: people, status, oppression, robbery, riches.
There's our devotional journey.
We can say God is our source while quietly maintaining several emotional backup plans.
David progressively strips those away.
This isn't necessarily about abandoning people or resources. It's about refusing to demand from them what only God can provide.
Micro-surrender: I surrender my backup saviors.
Standout thought:
God can give you resources without permitting those resources to become your refuge.
Prayer:
God, You alone are my rock and salvation. Reveal anything I have asked to carry the weight that belongs to You. Teach my soul to wait quietly for You. Amen.
