God Has an Appointed Time

by Torrie Slaughter

Psalm 75:1–10

Waiting can make us wonder whether something has gone wrong.

We prayed.

We obeyed.

We waited.

And still—nothing.

But Psalm 75 gives us a different perspective.

God declares that at the appointed time, He will judge with equity. The psalm then warns against pride and reminds us that promotion does not ultimately come from east or west. God is Judge.

In other words, God isn't scrambling to respond to history.

He has an appointed time.

That doesn't make waiting easy, but it changes how we wait.

Our clocks often measure God's faithfulness by speed.

God operates according to wisdom.

That's why dependence requires more than trusting God to do something. Sometimes dependence means trusting whenHe chooses to do it.

Perhaps the Shepherd hasn't forgotten you.

Perhaps you haven't missed Him.

Perhaps the waiting isn't evidence that God is absent.

You may simply be standing between the promise and its appointed time.

Micro Surrender

Today, surrender your timeline.

Not your hope.

Not your prayer.

Not your expectation.

Your timeline.

Tell God:

“Lord, I trust Your wisdom with when.”

Then continue doing faithfully what He has placed before you today.

Prayer

Father, You are not late, careless, or unaware. Forgive me for measuring Your faithfulness by my preferred timing. Give me grace to wait without becoming discouraged and wisdom to remain faithful while I wait. I trust Your appointed time. In Jesus' name, amen.

Reflect

What timeline have I been asking God to follow that I need to surrender back to Him?
