Sunday, September 20 — Psalm 64
God Hears What You Don't
by Torrie Slaughter
Psalm 64 deals with secret plots, hidden conversations, malicious words and people who believe nobody sees what they're doing.
David cannot hear every conversation.
He cannot uncover every plan.
He cannot control what people say.
But God can.
That makes this an excellent conclusion for the week because there is tremendous freedom in realizing:
You don't need access to everything being said about you in order for God to protect you.
Some of us exhaust ourselves trying to discover what people think, what they said, why they did it, who agreed with them, and what happened after we left the room.
Psalm 64 says, essentially:
God sees hidden things too.
Micro-surrender: I surrender my need to know what is happening behind my back.
Standout thought:
You don't need inside information when you belong to the God who sees what is hidden.
Prayer:
Lord, free me from chasing conversations I was never meant to hear. You see what is hidden. Keep my heart secure and my attention fixed on You. Amen.
